この度、四季彩舎では菊池玲生の当ギャラリー初となる個展「copy and paste」を開催いたします。
日本画を学んだ菊池玲生は、画中画の手法を用い、既存のイメージを引用・再構成することで、絵画のあり方を探ってきました。
本展の中心となる「copy and paste」シリーズでは、既存の絵画から切り取ったイメージをデジタル上で複製し、反復や組み替えを行った後、その構成をもとにアクリル絵具でキャンバスへと描き起こします。
画面に現れるのは、どこかで目にしたことのある人物や風景、絵画の断片。それらはコピー＆ペーストを繰り返すなかで元の文脈から切り離され、ずれや重なりを伴いながら、別のイメージへと変化していきます。
画像を瞬時に複製し、加工し、共有できる現在、菊池はデジタル上で行われる操作を、あえて絵具と筆を用いて時間をかけて描き直します。同じイメージを繰り返し描いても、手の動きや絵具の重なりによって、一つひとつに微細な違いが生まれます。機械的な複製を出発点としながらも、その過程に人の手による不確かさや時間が入り込むことで、イメージは単なるコピーとは異なる存在へと変わっていきます。
複製と手描き、反復と差異。そのあいだを行き来する菊池の制作は、イメージが絶えず生み出され、消費される時代において、絵画を描くことの意味をあらためて問いかけます。
本展では、「copy and paste」シリーズを通して、複製されたイメージが絵画として新たに立ち上がる過程をご紹介します。
SHIKISAISHA GALLERY is pleased to present *copy and paste*, Reo Kikuchi’s first solo exhibition at the gallery.
Having studied Japanese painting, Kikuchi has explored the possibilities of painting through the use of images within images, appropriating and reconfiguring existing visual material.
In the *copy and paste* series, which forms the focus of this exhibition, Kikuchi extracts fragments from existing paintings, digitally duplicates, repeats, and rearranges them, and then recreates the resulting compositions on canvas using acrylic paint.
The paintings bring together familiar figures, landscapes, and fragments of other artworks. Through repeated acts of copying and pasting, these images become detached from their original contexts, shifting and overlapping to form new compositions.
At a time when images can be instantly duplicated, manipulated, and shared, Kikuchi deliberately translates these digital operations into the slow, physical process of painting by hand. Even when the same image is painted repeatedly, subtle variations emerge through the movement of the brush and the layering of paint. What begins as mechanical reproduction becomes something distinct, shaped by the time, gestures, and inevitable irregularities of the human hand.
Moving between reproduction and hand-painted expression, repetition and difference, Kikuchi's practice invites us to reconsider what it means to paint in an age when images are continuously produced, reproduced, and consumed.
Through the *copy and paste* series, this exhibition explores how reproduced images take on a new presence when transformed into paintings.

東京藝術大学大学院博士後期課程修了。
現在、東京藝術大学教育研究助手。
歴史的な絵画イメージを再構成しながら、
「見る」という行為そのものを問い直す作品を制作。
絵画をどのように認識し、作用するのかという視点から、
鑑賞者との関係性の中で成立する絵画の在り方を探求している。
Reo Kikuchi
Completed his PhD at Tokyo University of the Arts.
Currently serves as an educational research assistant at the same institution.
His work reconfigures historical pictorial images,
examining the act of seeing itself.
Focusing on how painting is perceived and functions,
he explores the possibility of painting as something that emerges through its relationship with the viewer.
