SHIN × 獣

Naoki Shimoyama Solo Exhibition SHIN × Jū We are pleased to present a solo exhibition by Naoki Shimoyama at Ginza Tsutaya Books. This exhibition introduces new works centered on animal motifs, under the keyword “SHIN”—a term that encompasses multiple meanings such as “new,” “true,” and “divine.” Shimoyama explores presences and signs that exist beyond human perception, attempting to give them contour and mass so that they may emerge within physical space. He considers the act of giving form to the unknown itself to be the essence of sculpture. In this exhibition, worlds that transcend conventional frameworks of time and space are presented through the forms of living creatures. The motif of animals functions as a filter through which different dimensions may be glimpsed, and the works embody a presence that exists between the visible and the invisible. As suggested by the title SHIN × Jū, meaning is not fixed but continues to shift within the viewer’s interpretation. The works quietly suggest the possibility of worlds that extend beyond our perception. Through this exhibition, we invite you to experience the new forms of existence proposed by Shimoyama’s sculpture.
