この度、ShinQs Gallery 5にて、金丸悠児の個展を開催いたします。
金丸悠児は、古代魚や亀をはじめとする動物たちをモチーフに、「時」や「生命」をテー マとした作品を長年にわたり制作してきました。
麻布や英字新聞の断片を用い、ひび割れなどを取り入れてつくられる独特のマチエールと、幾重にも塗り重ねられた鮮やかで柔らかな色彩が、金丸作品の大きな特徴です。そこに描かれる動物たちは、どこかユーモラスで親しみやすくありながら、長い時間を生き続けてきた生命の神秘を感じさせます。
また、幼少期を中東で過ごした経験から生まれる乾いた空気感や、異国を思わせる街並み、不思議な生き物たちも作品の随所に現れ、懐かしさと異郷の気配が入り混じる独自の世界を形づくっています。
本展では、金丸がライフワークとして描き続けてきた動物たちを通して広がる、色彩豊かな作品世界をご紹介いたします。

We are pleased to present a solo exhibition by Yuji Kanamaru at ShinQs Gallery 5.
For many years, Kanamaru has explored themes of time and life through depictions of animals, including ancient fish and turtles.
A distinctive feature of his work is its richly textured surface, created using materials such as burlap and fragments of English-language newspapers, often incorporating crackled effects. Layers of vivid yet gentle color further give his paintings their unique presence. The animals that inhabit these works appear humorous and familiar, while at the same time evoking a sense of mystery associated with lives that seem to endure across vast stretches of time.
Kanamaru’s childhood years spent in the Middle East have also left a lasting impression on his visual language. A dry, arid atmosphere, unfamiliar cityscapes, and curious imaginary creatures emerge throughout his works, creating a distinctive world in which nostalgia and a sense of the foreign quietly coexist.
This exhibition brings together the richly colored world that Kanamaru has continued to develop through the animals that have long been central to his practice.
We invite you to discover, beyond these familiar and approachable creatures, Kanamaru’s enduring contemplation of time and life.

1978年神奈川県生まれ。
東京藝術大学美術学部デザイン科卒業。
日本画の表現体系を基盤としながら、
独自のマチエールと重層的な色彩による絵画表現を展開する。
麻布や新聞の断片、ひび割れなど異なる要素が混在する画面は、
鮮烈さと柔らかさを併せ持つ独自の質感を生み出している。
中東で過ごした幼少期の経験を背景に、
異郷性とノスタルジーが交錯する独自の世界観を提示する。
Yuji Kanamaru
Born in Kanagawa in 1978.
Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts.
Working from a foundation in Nihonga, he develops a distinctive painterly language
defined by unique textures and layered, vibrant yet subtle colors.
Incorporating elements such as fabric, fragments of newspapers, and intentional cracks,
his surfaces generate a singular material presence.
Influenced by his childhood spent in the Middle East,
his work evokes a world where a sense of the unfamiliar and nostalgia intersect.
