Prototype for split image

Shikisaisha will be holding Kisho Kakutani's solo exhibition ``Mediator and Protective Wall''.

In this exhibition, which is his first solo exhibition, in addition to the Frosted Window series, in which the center of the screen is hidden by frosted glass, and the Curtain series, in which the scenery appears to be peeking through the gaps between the curtains, works created from a new perspective, " We will be exhibiting ``Split image''.

Kisho Kakutani's works depict landscapes that are difficult to see, giving viewers room for interpretation, and through his attempts to draw out their individual imagination and empathy, he reconstructs realistic landscapes.

His creation is an act of delving deeply into his own experiences and ideas, and his works hidden in "noise" function as a medium that promotes empathy with others.

At the same time, behind Kakutani's search for resonance with others through difficult-to-see images, he expresses the sense of security that arises from the noise that exists between the self and the world.

In my new work ``Split image,'' I cut out and draw fragments of scenery to present a space that was not supposed to exist. The transparent blank spaces seem to connect and separate the landscapes, leaving room for new interpretations to the viewer.

By intentionally painting landscapes with noise, this exhibition leaves the interpretation of the work up to the viewer and attempts to create a realistic landscape for everyone by letting the viewer imagine.

We hope you enjoy the world that is created by hiding the common sights of everyday life.

The words ``mediation and protective walls'' are the words I used when describing my own production and works in the final chapter of my doctoral thesis.

For me, the production itself is a medium for connecting with my own experiences, ideas, and the world around me, and I believe that the works I create are also a medium for sharing reality with the viewer.

However, seeking indirect connections through production and works, including expression through noise, may stem from anxiety about being exposed to something other than yourself. I started thinking.

For me, "expression," "production," and "work" are mediums, and at the same time, protective walls, and borderline elements between myself and everything else.
