TOKYO CONTEMPORARY KYOBASHIの第2弾となる企画展。
今回はレザーカービングで独自の世界観を表現するスズキシノブの個展を開催します。
スズキシノブProfile
1983年生まれ。
革小物職人としてのキャリアを活かして、革への装飾技法で あるレザーカービング(革への彫刻)で2020年より作品を発表。
「人生の妙に気付いた人」を前提に、パンクロックカルチャーやストリート アート、cartoonの様なフォントや構図を、凹凸や仄かな陰影(タンニンの色 合い)で表現するFloral Patternに反映させた作風を特徴としています。
素材である植物性タンニンで丁寧に鞣された革(ヌメ革)は、少しずつ色を変え ながら育って(経年変化して)いく特徴があり、そこが魅力的な素材です。 食肉文化の副産物である皮をただ廃棄するのではなく、革となるも、使い捨 てにするのではなく、日々の空間の中で、生活する人々に寄り添いながら ゆっくりと成長(変化)していく作品として。 時より、その変化を観て共に暮らす人達が、生きている事で得られる時間の 流れを、作品の中の人物の様に、肯定的な気付きとして、嬉びとして感じ 取ってもらえたら。 という思いをテーマに、制作をしています。

Carving on full-grain leather
The second exhibition presented by TOKYO CONTEMPORARY KYOBASHI.
This solo exhibition features Shinobu Suzuki, who expresses a distinctive world through leather carving.
Artist Profile: Shinobu Suzuki
Born in 1983.
Drawing on a career as a maker of small leather goods, the artist began presenting works in 2020 using leather carving, a decorative technique of sculpting the surface of leather.
The work takes as its premise “people who have become aware of life's curious subtleties.” It draws on punk rock culture, street art, and cartoon-like fonts and compositions, incorporating them into floral patterns expressed through relief and subtle shadows in the tones of tannin.
The material, leather carefully tanned with vegetable tannins, gradually changes color as it matures. This aging process is part of its appeal. Rather than discarding hides that are a by-product of meat production, or treating the leather made from them as disposable, the artist creates works that slowly grow and change alongside the people who live with them in their everyday spaces. The work is made with the hope that, from time to time, those people will notice these changes and, like the figures in the works, experience the passage of time granted by being alive as a positive realization and a source of joy.
