Rintaro Mizuguchi is an artist and designer who develops works using a wide range of techniques, including thermoplastic materials and digital processes. His practice is grounded in exploring binary oppositions—such as reality and fiction, organic and inorganic—through which he questions the nature of value and the essence of things. His use of thermoplastic resin (hot glue) in both drawing and sculptural forms produces distinctive textures that emerge between control and unpredictability, creating works with strong visual and tactile presence. By moving fluidly between digital and physical media, Mizuguchi expands the boundaries of conventional artistic expression. In his signature “KAIJU” series, network-like structures inspired by fungal systems are reimagined as colossal life forms, visualizing invisible connections and processes of growth. In the “Mushroom” series, he focuses on the unique coexistence of organic and inorganic qualities found in mushrooms, exploring their seductive forms, toxicity, and modes of existence. These works also reflect the influence of glass artist Émile Gallé, positioning his practice at the intersection of art and design. After graduating from Tokyo Zokei University (Industrial Design), Mizuguchi studied design at École Boulle in Paris. He is currently active between France and Japan. In 2024, SHIKISAISHA presented his solo exhibition “Three Poisons Toy Box,” alongside presentations at ShinQs Gallery 5, including live-based projects that expand the relationship between artwork, space, and audience. His work has also been featured internationally, including ONE ART TAIPEI (2022, 2024).
