瀧下和之（1975年熊本県生まれ）は、東京藝術大学美術学部デザイン科を卒業後、同大学大学院（デザイン科、中島千波研究室）修了、2005年より画業に専念しました。

2009年には初の画集を刊行し、新進気鋭のアーティストとして注目を集め、その後も国内外の展覧会やアートフェアを通じて独自の作品世界を発表し続けています。

代表作である「桃太郎図」シリーズでは、日本のおとぎ話に基づく物語から桃太郎を取り除き、鬼を主人公に据えた独自の世界を描きます。

鬼たちは宴を開き、踊り、動物たちと戯れるなど、恐怖の象徴として語られてきた姿とは対照的に、愛らしくユーモラスな存在として生き生きと表現されます。

この独自の解釈は、伝統的なイメージを反転させ、観る者に新たな物語の可能性を示しています。さらに、風神雷神や龍虎などの古典的題材も、類まれな空間感覚と鮮やかな色彩によって現代的な表現へと昇華されています。

瀧下の作品は、パネルに彫刻刀で刻み込む独特の線描とアクリル絵具による鮮烈な色彩を特徴とし、伝統と現代をつなぐ独自の表現を生み出しています。

作品はメナード美術館（愛知）、成川美術館（箱根）、熊本市現代美術館など全国の美術館に収蔵されているほか、鬼をモチーフにしたフィギュアや絵本、ぬいぐるみ、カルタといったグッズ制作や、故・横綱千代の富士や宝塚歌劇団、人気漫画『キン肉マン』とのコラボレーションを通じて活動の幅を広げています。

Kazuyuki Takishita (b. 1975, Kumamoto, Japan) graduated from the Department of Design at Tokyo University of the Arts and completed his graduate studies in the same department under Professor Chinami Nakajima. Since 2005, he has devoted himself exclusively to painting. In 2009, he published his first monograph, gaining recognition as a rising artist, and has since continued to present his unique artistic world through exhibitions and art fairs both in Japan and abroad.

His signature Momotaro series reimagines the traditional Japanese folktale by removing the hero Momotaro and instead placing demons at the center of the narrative. These demons, once feared as symbols of terror, are depicted as humorous and endearing beings who feast, dance, and play with animals, vividly overturning their conventional image. This distinctive interpretation challenges tradition and opens new possibilities for storytelling. Takishita also engages with classical subjects such as Fujin & Raijin (Wind and Thunder Gods) and Dragon & Tiger, transforming them into contemporary expressions through his exceptional sense of space and brilliant use of color.

His works are characterized by unique lines carved into wooden panels with chisels and overlaid with vibrant acrylic pigments, creating a visual language that bridges tradition and modernity. They are included in the collections of Menard Art Museum (Aichi), Narukawa Art Museum (Hakone), and the Contemporary Art Museum Kumamoto, among others. Beyond painting, his creativity extends to demon-themed figurines, picture books, plush toys, and karuta playing cards, as well as collaborations with cultural icons such as the late sumo grand champion Chiyonofuji, the Takarazuka Revue, and the popular manga Kinnikuman.

By fusing traditional Japanese motifs with contemporary sensibility and humor, Kazuyuki Takishita brings to light the flexibility and universality of culture, weaving new stories that resonate vibrantly in the present day.
