四季彩舎が提案するアーティストの作品を、展覧会形式で紹介するシリーズ「ART ENCOUNTERS」。第11回となる今回は、吉川薫平の個展を開催いたします。
吉川薫平（1998年、神奈川県生まれ）は、東京藝術大学美術学部絵画科日本画専攻を卒業後、同大学大学院修士課程を修了。岩絵具や和紙といった日本画の伝統的な素材を軸に、インクやメディウムなどを組み合わせながら、現代的な感覚による独自の絵画表現を追求しています。
吉川の制作は、自らが「心から帰れる」と感じられる場所を探し、実際にその土地を訪れることから始まります。旅先で出会う光、空気、温度、植物や水の気配。刻々と変化していく自然のなかで身体に残った感覚を手がかりに、目の前の風景をそのまま写し取るのではなく、その場で生じた知覚や記憶の揺らぎを画面へと置き換えていきます。
幾層にも重ねられた岩絵具や異素材は、独特の質感と光沢を生み、見る角度や光によって異なる表情を見せます。色彩は互いに溶け合い、ときにせめぎ合いながら、画面のなかに流動する空間を立ち上げます。そこに現れる像は、具体的な風景と抽象のあいだを行き来し、鑑賞者自身の記憶や感覚とも静かに結びついていきます。
本展では、花々を主なモチーフとした新作を中心に、OMIYA ART WALLとSHABAの2会場で作品を展開します。吉川が花に見出しているのは、形や色の美しさだけではありません。咲くこと、揺れること、光を受けること、やがて移ろっていくこと。その一瞬ごとの変化のなかに宿る温度やエネルギーを、絵画として捉えようとしています。

“ART ENCOUNTERS” is a series of exhibitions presenting artists selected by SHIKISAISHA Gallery. For its eleventh edition, we are pleased to present a solo exhibition by Kunpei Yoshikawa.
Born in Kanagawa in 1998, Yoshikawa studied Japanese painting at Tokyo University of the Arts, where he subsequently completed his MFA. Working primarily with traditional materials such as mineral pigments and washi paper, while also incorporating ink and various painting mediums, he explores a distinctive visual language informed by a contemporary sensibility.
Yoshikawa’s creative process begins with a search for places to which he feels he can truly return. He travels to these locations, attuning himself to the light, air, temperature, vegetation, and presence of water he encounters there. Drawing on the sensations that linger in his body amid nature’s continual transformation, he does not seek to reproduce the landscape as it appears before him. Instead, he translates the shifting perceptions and memories awakened by the place onto the pictorial surface.
Layer upon layer of mineral pigments and other materials creates distinctive textures and lustres, allowing each work to reveal different expressions depending on the viewer’s perspective and the changing light. Colours dissolve into one another and, at times, enter into tension, giving rise to a fluid sense of space within the composition. The resulting imagery moves between recognizable landscape and abstraction, quietly resonating with the viewer’s own memories and sensations.
Presented across two venues, OMIYA ART WALL and SHABA, the exhibition centres on new works inspired by flowers. For Yoshikawa, their significance lies not only in the beauty of their forms and colours, but also in the acts of blooming, swaying, receiving light, and gradually fading. Through painting, he seeks to capture the warmth and energy held within each fleeting moment of transformation.
While rooted in the traditions of Japanese painting, Yoshikawa opens its materials and sensibilities to the present. We warmly invite you to experience this new development in his practice.

素材が織りなす「揺らぎ」や「濁り」を活かし、
旅や自然の中で触れた知覚の余韻を、固定されない色彩で表現する。
明確な輪郭に回収されない空気感や気配を内包した作品は、
観る者の感覚に深く静かに浸透する。

Utilizing the "fluctuations" and "depth" of his materials,

His works, which encapsulate an ambiance and presence beyond defined outlines,
deeply and quietly permeate the viewer's senses.
