岡本順子の個展「element」を開催いたします。
本展では、作家にとって重要なモチーフである「雲」と「聖域」を中心に制作された新作を発表いたします。岡本にとって雲は、果てしなく続く自由の象徴であり、扉やトンネルは未知の世界へと導く入口として捉えられています。また「聖域」は、神々が宿る清らかな場所として、どこまでも美しい風が吹く理想郷＝まほろばのイメージと重なります。こうしたイメージは、作品を生み出すうえでの根幹をなす要素となっています。
1972年神奈川県生まれの岡本は、物質の重量感や風化による時間の蓄積を主題に、独自の絵画表現を展開してきました。漆喰を幾層にも塗り重ね、染料を繰り返し浸透させることで、画面には時間の痕跡が刻み込まれていきます。ひび割れや滲み、剥離といった現象を内包したマチエールは、物質としての強い存在感を立ち上げると同時に、不可視である時間の流れを可視化します。
本展タイトル「element」は、こうした作品を構成する根源的な要素――物質、時間、記憶、そしてイメージ――を指し示すものです。岡本の作品に通底する「見えないものを感じ取る力」が、重層的な画面を通して静かに呼び起こされることでしょう。

SHIKISAISHA is pleased to present Junko Okamoto: element.
This exhibition features new works centered on two key motifs in Okamoto’s practice: clouds and sanctuaries. For the artist, clouds symbolize an endless sense of freedom, while doors and tunnels represent thresholds leading to unknown worlds. The idea of a “sanctuary” overlaps with the image of an ideal realm—mahōroba—a pure and sacred place where deities reside and a beautiful, eternal wind flows. These visions form the conceptual foundation of her work.
Born in Kanagawa in 1972, Okamoto has developed a distinctive painterly practice that explores the physical weight of materials and the accumulation of time through weathering. By layering plaster repeatedly and allowing dyes to permeate the surface over time, traces of duration become embedded within the work. Cracks, stains, and peeling surfaces are not incidental but integral, generating a rich material presence while simultaneously visualizing the otherwise invisible passage of time.
The exhibition title, element, refers to the fundamental components that constitute her work—material, time, memory, and image. Through her layered surfaces, Okamoto quietly evokes a sensibility that allows us to perceive what cannot be seen.
