このたび四季彩舎では、長年にわたり国際的に活躍した美術家ミズテツオ（1966–2025）の創作の歩みをたどる追悼企画展「MJD＋1」を開催いたします。

ミズテツオは1980年代より「国際海洋信号旗」をモチーフとした独自の造形言語によって注目を集め、イタリア、フランス、スペインなど欧州各地を拠点に精力的な活動を展開しました。1987年にはローマ近郊アンツィオの国際美術展に招聘され特別賞を受賞し、サンタ・アンナ教会（イタリア）でのステンドグラス制作も手がけるなど、創作領域は多岐にわたります。

また、「ピカソ・ダリ・シャガール・ミズ」展（1989年・バルセロナ）、「ダリ・ミズ」展（1990年・ボーヌ）といった企画を通し、その評価は欧州画壇において確かなものとなりました。極細線で区切られたマットで量感のある絵肌を特徴とする作風は、現代抽象でありながら浮世絵との共通性が指摘されることもあります。

さらに、Art Basel（スイス）、FIAC（パリ）、Art Rio（ブラジル）など国際的なアートフェアにも多数参加し、1998年には長野冬季オリンピックのフィギュアスケート会場「ホワイトリング」に全長32メートルにおよぶ陶壁画を制作するなど、その歩みは国際的かつ多面的でした。

本展は、ミズと深い親交を結び、互いの創作を刺激し合ってきた平澤重信、醍醐イサムとともに、mizuの誕生日である 12月13日に合わせて開催いたします。

タイトルの「MJD」は、ミズテツオ・平澤・醍醐の三名を象徴し、そこに付された「＋1」は、毎年新たに四季彩舎が招くアーティストを示しています。三者の表現を基点としながら、未来へと開く視点を提示する継続型シリーズ企画です。

シリーズ第1回目となる本展では、写真を基軸に独自の視覚世界を構築するアーティスト小山恭史を迎えます。小山は 2024年第27回TARO賞特別賞、2025年第4回枕崎国際芸術賞展大賞を受賞し、被写体の存在と不可視の時間を捉える表現により高い評価を得ています。その作品は、三者が追求してきた“見ること”“かたちにすること”という根源的な問いとも響き合い、本展に新たな地平をもたらします。

「MJD＋1」は、ミズテツオの創作精神を受け継ぎながら、世代や領域を超えて表現をつなぐ試みです。三者の歩みをあらためて振り返るとともに、新たなアーティストとの交差を通じて、mizuが遺した創作の自由が未来へと確かに手渡されることを願っています。

SHIKISAISHA is pleased to present “MJD＋1,” a memorial exhibition honoring the creative legacy of mizu (1966–2025), an artist who tirelessly explored a unique world of abstraction throughout his career.Mizu Tetsuo passed away from pneumonia on January 30, 2025. This exhibition is organized together with Jyushin Hirasawa and Isamu Daigo, two artists with whom he shared a deep personal and artistic relationship, and is timed to coincide with mizu’s birthday, December 13, as a tribute to his life and work.

The title “MJD” represents the three artists—mizu, Hirasawa, and Daigo. The addition of “＋1” signifies the project’s other central concept: a dedicated space to invite a new artist each year. Anchored by the expressions of these three, the exhibition is conceived as an ongoing series in which SHIKISAISHA selects one emerging or mid-career artist to introduce a fresh perspective, extending the dialogue into the future.

For the inaugural edition, we welcome Yasufumi Oyama, an artist who constructs a distinct visual world through photography.Oyama has rapidly gained recognition, receiving the Special Prize at the 27th TARO Award (2024) and the Grand Prize at the 4th Makurazaki International Art Award Exhibition (2025). His works, which capture both the presence of the subject and an invisible sense of time, resonate with the fundamental inquiries shared by the three artists—questions of seeing, of giving form, and of tracing the boundaries between perception and imagination. His practice introduces a new dimension to this exhibition.

“MJD＋1” is a project that seeks both continuity and renewal: honoring mizu’s creative spirit while opening the door each year to a new artistic voice. By reflecting on the trajectories of these three artists and inviting encounters with different generations and sensibilities, we hope this exhibition will carry forward the sense of freedom in creation that mizu embodied.
