瀬戸優展「指の記憶」

この度、松坂屋名古屋店 本館8階 ART HUB NAGOYA にて、瀬戸優展「指の記憶」を開催いたします。

瀬戸優は1994年神奈川県小田原市生まれの彫刻家。自然科学的な視点から生態や構造を考察し、主に野生動物をモチーフとしたテラコッタ作品を制作しています。粘土という素材を直接指で触れながら形づくることで、作家の触覚や動きの軌跡がそのまま表面に現れ、生命の気配と躍動感に満ちた独自の造形世界を生み出しています。

本展では、作家の制作の根幹にある「触れる」という行為を見つめ直し、触覚の痕跡——「指の記憶」をテーマに、大作を含む約50点の新旧作品を展示いたします。

「彫刻をつくるという行為は、私にとって「触れる」ことに近い。 粘土は、彫刻素材の中でも唯一、直接、指で触れながら形をつくっていくことができる。 硬いのか、柔らかいのか。 毛は厚いのか、皮膚は薄いのか。 触れたことのない動物たちの身体を、私は想像し、触覚としての記憶をかたちづくっていく。 この展覧会では、私の作品制作の根幹である“触れるという行為”そのものを捉え直し、 触覚の痕跡―「指の記憶」を、提示したい。」瀬戸優

SHIKISAISHA is pleased to present “Memory of Fingers”, a solo exhibition by sculptor Yu Seto at ART HUB NAGOYA.

Born in 1994 in Odawara, Kanagawa, Seto creates terracotta sculptures that explore the structures and vitality of wildlife through a lens of natural science.Clay, as a sculptural material, uniquely preserves the direct traces of the artist’s fingers and gestures, resulting in surfaces charged with tactile memory and rhythmic movement.

In this exhibition, Seto revisits the fundamental act of touching that lies at the core of his practice.Through approximately fifty works, including large-scale pieces, he presents a sculptural exploration of the tactile traces that shape his creative process—the lingering “Memory of Fingers.”

Artist Statement｜Yu Seto

For me, creating sculpture is close to the act of touching. Among sculptural materials, clay is the only one that allows me to form shapes directly with my fingers. Is it hard, or soft? Is the fur thick, or is the skin thin? I imagine the bodies of animals I have never touched, shaping them through my tactile memory. In this exhibition, I wish to re-examine the very act of touching— and present the traces of touch, the “Memory of Fingers.”
