Juri Inoue (born in Tokyo) completed her MFA in Oil Painting at Tama Art University in 2008. She has developed her practice around the theme of “living in an age of care,” creating works that explore emotional landscapes shaped by experiences such as the Great East Japan Earthquake and the COVID-19 pandemic. Her paintings often center on skies and landscapes derived from travel, projecting inner states of mind onto the canvas. In recent years, she has also expanded her practice to include glass painting, depicting food and familiar motifs with vivid color, capturing small memories and warmth embedded in everyday life. Technically, Inoue employs a wide range of materials, including alkyd resin paints, acrylics, oil, pigments, and gold leaf on prepared panels. Her works move fluidly between gloss and matte surfaces, creating layered visual experiences. In her glass paintings, she combines traditional reverse painting techniques with direct surface painting, producing a unique interplay of transparency and depth. In addition to her individual practice, Inoue is active as part of the art unit “Moso Park,” where she develops AR-based experiential artworks and collaborates with educational contexts. Through these activities, she explores new forms of accessibility and engagement in art, integrating both analog and digital approaches. For Inoue, painting is not merely an act of representation but a means of creating spaces that gently resonate with viewers. Through skies, memories of meals, and fragments of lived experience, her work invites reflection and connection, offering moments of quiet emotional retreat.
