Ryutarotakemochi Yamamura
Ryutaro Kimura (born 1976, Kumamoto, Japan) creates highly intricate ink drawings that depict densely intertwined plants and the insects that inhabit them. He graduated from the Department of Oil Painting at Tokyo University of the Arts and completed his MFA at the same institution.
Working exclusively with ink, Kimura constructs meticulously detailed compositions in which flowers, leaves, and insects merge into a single, organic mass. These images possess both a quiet stillness and an overwhelming sense of presence and dimensionality. Through subtle gradations of ink, his surfaces evoke a breathing, almost living structure, revealing layers of time and unseen forces embedded within nature. His disciplined and rigorous practice captures the silent vitality of life, leaving a profound and lasting impression on the viewer.
Kimura held his first solo exhibition at SHIKISAISHA in 2011 and has continued to present his work with the gallery as a central platform. In 2017, he was featured in a solo presentation at Art Fair Tokyo. His work has since gained recognition for its exceptional precision and distinctive visual language.
In recent years, Kimura has developed the series “Grass Sea,” in which he expands his practice toward imagined botanical landscapes that oscillate between observation and invention.
