Jyushin Hirasawa
Jyushin Hirasawa was born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1948. He has been a member of the Jiyu Bijutsu Association since 1978 and, since the 1990s, has presented his work primarily through solo exhibitions.
In his early period, he explored fantastical doll motifs, later expanding his imagery to include everyday subjects such as bicycles, human figures, animals, and houses. Characterized by a “multi-centered dispersed composition,” in which these motifs are scattered across the pictorial field, his work constructs a unique pictorial space rooted in memory and psychological landscapes.
In recent years, Hirasawa has pared his motifs down to their limits, developing compositions in which fragmentary forms, colors, and lines interact to create a structure that seems to breathe within the pictorial space itself. Working across diverse media—including oil painting, ink, reverse glass painting, and works on paper—he continues to investigate the fundamental nature of painting.
