大嶋直哉　Naoya Oshima

大嶋直哉は、作られたもの――フィクションとしてのイメージに関心を寄せ、絵画制作を行っている。

写真や伝統的な表現、物語など、すでに存在するイメージを手がかりにしながら、それがどのように「現実らしさ」を帯びていくのかを問い続けている。

既存の写真の再構成や、慣習的な表現の引用、さらには実在しない絵巻物の模写といった手法を用いることで、作品は本物と作り物のあいだを行き来する。

見る者は、それが事実なのか想像なのか判断できないまま、イメージそのものと向き合うことになる。

大嶋は、そうした曖昧な状態の中に、「それではないが、それ自体は確かに存在する」と感じられる、別のリアリティを見出そうとしている。

彼の作品は、私たちが無意識に信じている「見ること」や「知ること」の確かさを、静かに揺さぶる。

Naoya Oshima is an artist whose practice is driven by an interest in images that are constructed—images that exist as fiction.

Working primarily with painting, he explores how certain images come to appear “real” to us, even when their origins are uncertain or imagined.

Through the reconstruction of existing photographs, the reinterpretation of traditional or conventional forms, and the imitation of imaginary picture scrolls, Oshima creates works that move between the familiar and the invented.

These images resist clear classification, leaving the viewer unsure whether what they are seeing is documentation, memory, or fabrication.

Within this uncertainty, Oshima seeks a different kind of reality—something that is not quite what it appears to be, yet undeniably present.

His works quietly question our assumptions about authenticity, representation, and the ways we trust images to convey truth.
