平良光子は、生き物の形を用いて、静謐な世界を木彫により表現している。

聖書や詩、民話などから着想を得て、物語の一場面を詩情あふれる作品として作り上げている。

また、彼女は自身が老犬と一緒に生活しているため、生きものが持つ柔らかな毛並みや体温を感じさせる着彩、まつ毛の影など、作品の細部に愛情を込めた表現が見られる。

木彫の生きものたちは、人間とは対照的な存在として創り出されており、現代社会で失われつつある純粋さや美しさを表現している。

Mitsuko Taira expresses a serene and contemplative world through wood sculpture, using the forms of living creatures as her primary motif.

Drawing inspiration from the Bible, poetry, and folktales, she creates lyrical works that capture poetic moments drawn from narrative scenes.

Living with an elderly dog herself, she infuses her sculptures with warmth and tenderness — visible in the delicate coloring that evokes the softness of fur and the play of shadows cast by eyelashes.

The animals she carves are conceived as beings in contrast to humans, embodying purity and beauty that are gradually disappearing from contemporary society.
