瀬戸優

Yu Seto

瀬戸優（1994年神奈川県小田原市生まれ）は、東京藝術大学美術学部彫刻科を卒業後、同大学大学院美術研究科修士課程彫刻専攻を修了。自然科学への関心を基盤に、野生動物を主題とした彫刻作品を制作している。

主にテラコッタ（土器）を素材とし、作家の触覚や制作の軌跡がダイレクトに表面へと刻まれることで、強い身体性と躍動感を持つ造形を生み出している。その表現は、単なる写実を超え、生命の構造や動き、存在の本質に迫る試みとして展開されている。

野生動物というモチーフは、自然界における力の均衡や生の緊張感を内包すると同時に、人間との距離や関係性を問いかける存在として提示される。彫刻として立ち現れるそれらの姿は、観る者に物質的なリアリティと内的な感覚の双方を喚起する。

2018年には四季彩舎にて初個展「瀬戸優展月を知る」を開催。代表作《水月—シロサイ—》（2020）は、東京藝術大学大学院の修了制作として発表され、2024年にはザ・リッツ・カールトン東京にて展示されるなど、象徴的な作品として広く紹介されている。

また、代表作《水月—シロサイ—》は、大宮門街「OMIYA ART WALL」にて、空間の象徴的作品として常設されている。国内外の展覧会やアートフェアに加え、ファッションブランドとのコラボレーションや作品集『PROGRESS』（2021）の刊行、ザ・リッツ・カールトン東京オリジナルウイスキーのボトルラベルデザインを手がけるなど、領域を横断した活動を展開している。

Yu Seto (b. 1994, Odawara, Kanagawa, Japan) graduated from the Sculpture Department at Tokyo University of the Arts and completed his MFA in Sculpture at the same institution. Grounded in an interest in natural science, he creates sculptural works centered on wild animals. Working primarily with terracotta, Seto’s process leaves direct traces of touch and gesture on the surface, resulting in forms that convey strong physicality and a sense of dynamic movement. His work goes beyond representation, exploring the structures of life, motion, and the essence of existence. Wild animals serve as a central motif, embodying both the balance of forces within nature and a sense of tension inherent in life. At the same time, they function as a means of questioning the relationship and distance between humans and the natural world. His sculptures evoke both material presence and an internal, sensory response in the viewer. In 2018, Seto held his first solo exhibition, Knowing the Moon, at SHIKISAISHA Gallery. His representative work Reflection of the Moon – White Rhinoceros (2020), originally presented as his MFA graduation piece, has since been widely exhibited, including at The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo in 2024. The same work is permanently installed at OMIYA ART WALL in Omiya Kadomachi as a symbolic centerpiece of the space. Alongside exhibitions and art fairs in Japan and abroad, Seto has developed a cross-disciplinary practice, including collaborations with fashion brands, the publication of his drawing collection PROGRESS (2021), and the design of the bottle label for The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo’s original Ichiro’s Malt & Grain blended whisky.
